OK I'll ask on this one then. Do you have to have watched the previous series to enjoy this one please?

It will definitely help but if you know your history of the period you should be able to follow what's happening.

I tried watching Wolf Hall on iplayer but by the end of episode 2 I tapped out. Far too slow for me and I'm someone that likes arthouse films which can be some of the most mundane type of cinema there is!

Dull dialogue and dreary lighting and set design, Wolf Hall just isn't for me.

I thought they might show the first series again but I guess it wasn't that long ago it was on.

    Enjoying this .

I also tried the first series and thought something similar, but I thought I would give the first episode of this a go, and liked it a lot more. Much brighter and more mainstream than the first series for me so far and I enjoyed it.

It's definitely not as action packed as shows like The Tudors and The White Queen Trilogy.

Started S1 tonight so will try and continue.

I remember I found series 1 very slow at first but I got more into it as it went along.

Why do so many dramas these days have dead characters coming back as a ghost or vision or hallucination or whatever?

    Thoroughly enjoyed it.
There is something about Mark Rylance that makes me think of Paul Whitehouse!

Perfect Sunday night winter tv. So rich and atmospheric. Timothy Spall adds an extra layer of star dust on the drama!

I know someone with Prosopagnosia also.

My condolences, it must be very restricing and difficult sometimes.

That's exactly what my husband said last night. Just checking, you're not him, are you? 😁

But not as embarrassing as an inability to spell?
    "Restricing?"
Oh, and "prosopagnosia" is not a proper noun, so it doesn't take a capital letter.
The thing about using sarcasm is that it can turn round and bite you on the bum.

Did Claire Foy shoot any new material or did they just reuse footage from the end of S1?

If it was reused (which makes sense), it was edited down. It should be easy enough to check by looking at the end of series 1 on iPlayer.

Edit: I just checked both and it was re-done. A different actor asks Cromwell why she keeps looking up. Or maybe it was just that cut-away scene and the Claire Foy footage was from S1. The part we saw looked identical. Clever editing maybe.

They changed Tom Holland, who was around 10 in the first season final episode, for an older one last night. As the other actor is continuing in the part.

Tom Holland is now too famous to want to play the part.

Just checking to say I will be watching this evening after a long day of rugby and beer meant I was not up to a serious drama in the evening (watched Midsomer Murders instead). Enjoyed S1 so looking forward to S2.

I missed this as I didn't realise it was a new series - I assumed it was a repeat. I guess I'll have to fire up iPlayer.

The only comment I remember from the first series was that it was filmed like a series of Rembrandt paintings!

I really enjoyed last night's episode just an acting masterclass from so many excellent actors. Its definitely a show which requires full attention though.

They've recast quite a few roles aside from Tom Holland, Timothy Spall has replaced Bernard Hill as he died before filming had commenced and Lydia Leonard has replaced Jessica Raine.

Lydia Leonard played Anne Boleyn in the stage adaptation of Wolf Hall so it's interesting she's doing the TV adaptation as Lady Jane Rochford.
